Higher Wire

(Whyatt, Caldwell, Roberts)

Listen Here (MP3)

Origins

This was all Adie's music - he just came into rehersal one day with the chords and the arrangement completely written. All it neede was a melody and lyrics. Coddy came around to my house the next day and we spent an hour or so on the words. He wanted something about addiction, about knowing it's coming but not being able to do anything about it. The recording here was about the 8th or 9th take because Mick kept screwing up the ending. In the end we went with a reasonable take and faded the track out before we got to the dodgy bit at the end.

Lyrics

VERSE ONE
When I'm feeling high, my feet don't touch the ground
I feel like I could fly, floating in the clouds
These skies are open wide, floating on a wave of sound

VERSE TWO
The air surrounding me, is building up a force
I know what the future holds, but I can't guess its course
These skies are open wide, floating on a wave of sound

CHORUS
I want a feeling that takes me higher
It takes me closer to the the wire
The more I feel, don't want my feet back on the ground
The more I taste, keeps my glass filled up with sound

VERSE THREE
Sitting down again, having drunk my fill
The next flight that I take, gives my thoughts a chill
These skies are open wide, floating on a wave of sound
